Quezon City gov't starts distribution of tablet devices for blended learning system

The Quezon City government has started the distribution of 176,000 tablet devices that the city's public junior and senior high school students will need for this year’s blended learning system.

Mayor Joy Belmonte on Wednesday led the turnover ceremony to various school officials of the Samsung tablets that came with custom softwares and applications.

The local government said the model has met the required tablet specifications published by the national government, which include a quad-core minimum operating system (Android 9), an internal memory of 32GB ROM + 2 GB RAM, a minimum microSD storage capacity of up to 256GB, at least 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera, and a WiFi or WLAN connectivity. 

A total of 155,921 junior high school and 19,810 senior high school students will be allowed to use the tablets, according to the local government.

The tablet devices were procured using the P2.9 billion supplemental budget allotted by the city for this school year.

Aside from the gadgets, the local government will also give modules as well as learning and hygiene kits not only to the students but also to teachers.

Belmonte recently said that the city will also fund the Internet connection of Kinder to Grade 12 public school teachers “to address their concern.”
