Nutrition Caravan

TACLOBAN CITY – The National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region 8, together with its media group partner “Harmonized Initiatives of Media for the Spread of Good Nutrition in Region 8” (HIMSoG-8), dramatized the importance of good nutrition to healthy living during a three-day caravan in the provinces of Samar and Northern Samar.  NNC personnel and HIMSoG-8 members visited the capital city of Catbalogan in Samar and Catubig and Mondragon  and Lope de Vega towns all in Northern Samar to promote good nutrition practices. HIMSoG-8 President Francis Batula said caravan was organized by NNC Region 8 to become its partner in the fight against hunger and malnutrition in Eastern Visayas, through the use of media power.  (Jack C. Protected Areas

MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – To provide a clearer understanding on protected area (PA) management, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 Regional Executive Director Dr. Isabelo R. Montejo recently met 30 protected areas superintendent (PASu) in Central Visayas to harmonize, and level off the implementation of existing laws, rules and regulations on PAs. Montejo said the meeting aims to strengthen the integration and harmonization of the PASu and field offices of the DENR 7 and to provide technical guidance in protected area management. (Phoebe Indino)

Iloilo Projects

ILOILO CITY (PIA) – Twelve municipalities in Iloilo province, with 443 barangays covered by the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS), have availed a total of P987,937,301.40 worth of projects. Maricar Calubiran, DSWD-6 Kalahi-CIDSS project officer, said there were 953 sub-projects implemented benefitting 173,674 participants. She said the types of completed and functional sub-projects most needed by the communities are the basic social services facilities such as day care centers, electrification, health station, school buildings, small scale irrigation and water system with 644 projects.

Siquijor Awardees

SIQUIJOR (PIA) – Siquijor Mayor Richard Quezon and Siquijor State College (SSC) President Baldomero Martinez and the SSC itself received on Friday the Award of Recognition from the Department of Science and Technology-7. The DOST-7 Award of Recognition, according to DOST Provincial Director Mario de la Pena, is a special honor conferred on individuals or organizations as a mark of distinction for their contributions to the advancement of science, technology, and innovation as a catalyst toward socio-economic development. The local government unit (LGU) of Siquijor was instrumental in donating approximately 287 sq m of government lot to the DOST Siquijor provincial office where the DOST provincial office now stands.

Multi-Purpose Road

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the multi-purpose road project located in Albuera, Leyte funded by the Department of Agrarian Reform-8. According to Lino Francisco C. Gonzalez, DAR released a total of P2,944,632.04 for the construction of the multi-purpose pavement in Barangay Sherwood, which benefited the barangay’s 500 households.

The newly completed pavement will also benefit the farmers who will now have easy delivery of their harvest.
