Construction of P12-B Davao City bulk water project stepped up

DAVAO CITY – Apo Agua Infrastructura Inc. (Apo Agua) bas stepped up construction of the P12-billion Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project (DCBWSP) which is expected to provide residents here with new and sustainable water supply by the first quarter of 2023.

It has deployed several experienced contractors and their work is anticipated to be at full capacity by October.

Recipients are expected to have a water source by 2023.

“Despite ongoing difficulties in the transition, the project has resumed construction across civil, mechanical, and electrical works in all areas, including road restoration along the Treated Water Pipeline,” Apo Agua president Anna Lu said.

Lu said their office has spent the last month completing the handover of the works from its former contractor, acquiring necessary supplies and machinery, and mobilizing significant construction contractors on location.

“The project is fast-tracked by hiring experienced construction management professionals. In addition, contractors with credible track records in bulk water facilities and large-scale complex projects have been engaged to implement as many parallel activities as possible,” Lu said.

To speed up the completion of the project, water quality testing and commissioning will be done simultaneously with construction activities.

In addition, to assure their durability and longevity in the provision of clean drinking water throughout their anticipated operation of about 30 years, each piece of equipment must undergo a thorough examination.

According to Apo Agua, supply in District 2 will be significantly augmented by the DCBWSP which will deliver over two-thirds of its production to Davao City Water District (DCWD) reservoir in the area.

The delivery of water to DCWD is expected to start in the first quarter of 2023 in Tugbok, subject to their acceptance, and will progressively ramp up to Cabantian, Mandug, Calinan, Talandang, Indangan, Panacan, and Dumoy, by the second quarter of 2023.
