BACOLOD CITY -- Authorities intercepted a male passenger with about 150 grams of suspected shabu worth P1,020,000 at the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (Bredco) port here Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Arrested was Marcial Delos Santos Jr., 49, of Lapaz, Iloilo.
According to Agent Dalisay of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Seaport Interdiction Unit, Delos Santos was supposed to board a roll-on roll-off (Roro) vessel bound for Dumangas, Iloilo.
However, he refused to have his bag scanned at the port. He was also acting uneasy, Agent Dalisay said.
This prompted PDEA and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to use their K9 team to inspect Delos Santos’s bag.
A narcotic-sniffing dog then detected the contraband inside the bag.
Agent Dalisay said that Delos Santos was told to open his bag, and authorities saw the illegal drugs concealed in socks.
Agent Dalisay said they are investigating the suspect deeper. Delos Santos is detained at Police Station 2, pending the filing of drug charges.
Meanwhile, Delos Santos, in a media interview, said he was just asked by someone he didn’t know to transport the item to Iloilo. He alleged that he was not aware that it was illegal drugs.
It was the first time for him to accept such a favor from someone, he said.
Delos Santos said he was here to visit his relatives and was about to go home, when he was intercepted.
