Negros Oriental police chief sacked over unsolved shooting incidents

Alfonso Enriquez was relieved as chief of the Bayawan City Police Station in Negros Oriental following his failure to address cases of shooting incidents in his area since January this year. (MANILA BULLETIN) (MANILA BULLETIN) This was confirmed by Col. Julian Entoma, Negros Oriental police director, who ordered his relief effective February 24. Entoma said Lt. Col. Judi Mar Bonilla from the Mobile Force Company will replace Enriquez, who will be transferred to the administrative branch at the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo) headquarters. Entoma noted that, in Enriquez’s stint at the Bayawan Police Station, there have been seven shooting incidents in the city, and yet, only one case has been filed by the police. Entoma said Enriquez, who was assigned in Bayawan in December 2019, failed to supervise his personnel with regards the investigation of these cases. One of the significant incidents happened in the city was the recent murder of Councilor Alex Tizon at Barangay Villareal on February 18. Entoma said Enriquez's relief should serve as warning to all police chiefs to do their jobs in the anti-criminality campaign. He said police are also investigating these cases, but they have encountered difficulty in looking for witnesses. “Pag tinanong na kasi ang mga tao, nagiging bulag at bingi na sila kasi wala silang tiwala sa kapulisan," he added. They (police) should know how to convince people to trust the police. “Kailangan maibalik iyong trust and confidence ng mga tao sa kapulisan,” he stressed. He also appealed to the public to help and support the police in the solution of crimes. “They have to stand with the truth,” he said, as he assured them that they will be protected.
