Zamora asks City Council to pass measure on lifting liquor ban in San Juan

By Jhon Casinas San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora on Saturday said he has requested members of the City Council to pass an ordinance for the lifting of liquor ban in the city. The city government has earlier passed Ordinance No. 24 series of 2020, imposing a ban on the sale, purchase, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in the city. In a letter dated May 15, Zamora has requested the City Council to pass an ordinance lifting the liquor ban in San Juan City. He has also asked for the passage of a measure amending a section of Ordinance No. 29 series of 2008 expanding the coverage of City Assistance Welfare Center. “I am hereby requesting for the inclusion of the above mentioned measures in the agenda of the Regular Session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod on May 18, 2020, Monday,” Zamora said. Starting on Saturday, the National Capital Region (NCR) was placed under the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), which allowed select sectors to resume operations.
