By Nick Giongco As the country gets ready to live life amid COVID-19, the country’s cycling stakeholders Tuesday came to an agreement to promote a culture of cycling as a means of transportation during and after the quarantine period. (MB photo | Camille Ante) The trio—Lina Group of Companies’ Bert Lina, Ronda Pilipinas’s Moe Chulani of LBC and Jeremy Go of Go For Gold—led the initiative that likewise drew the full support of other major players of the sport. Those who also backed the move were Donna Lina, Joy Mendoza, Ric Rodriguez, Titus Reyes and national team coaches Ednalyn Hualda and Reinhard Gorantes. The use of bicycle is a way of preventing the spread of the coronavirus, the group said. “There is a need to develop a proof-of-concept (POC) design adopting the bike lanes that have already been launched,” Lina said. “The group could come up with a proposal to fix the existing bike lanes.” Bike lanes have already been established in Antipolo City, Iloilo City, Quezon City, Marikina City, Pasig City, and Chulani stressed Ronda Pilipinas’s 100 percent support. “Ronda Pilipinas launched two cycling lanes in Iloilo and Antipolo two years ago,” Chulani said. “The bike lanes are maintained by private groups.” “A separate bike lane must be created and cyclists must also learn to follow the traffic regulations,” said Go.
