P.R.O.1 AWARDS 5 SENIOR OFFICERS

CAMP FLORENDO, La Union — Five senior officers in the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) were recently given recognition for their exceptional managerial expertise and outstanding leadership. Chief Superintendent Franklin Jesus B. Bucayu, PRO1 director, identified the awardees of the Medalya ng Kasanayan (Efficiency Medal) as Senior Superintendents Reynante G. Partible, Mariano Luis M. Verzosa Jr., and Reynaldo G. Biay. Chief Supt. Roman A. Felix, PRO1 Deputy Regional Director for Administration, also conferred the Medalya ng Papuri (Commendation Medal) to Sr. Supt. Ramon L. KIDS’ NUTRITION

TAYTAY, Rizal — In line with the observance of Nutrition Month, the police organization here spent the afternoon with kids from a poor community here yesterday. Supt. Arthur Masungsong, chief of police here, said some 400 youngsters were treated to a bowl of porridge and drinks at the Exodus Elementary School at Exodus Floodway, here. Police said the kids were given lectures on crime prevention as part of the regular Police Community Relations program of the police station. (Nel B. Andrade)

PLANT MORE TREES, SAYS B.M.

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite — Cavite 7th District Board Member I(BM) Irene de Padua-Bencito is encouraging citizens and groups to plant and care for trees in every bare parcel of land in the province as their contribution to environmental preservation as promoted by the recent Arboy Day celebration. Bencito, Cavite’s only woman board member, made the move as she and some other officials led the tree-planting activities in Barangay Sabang in Naic town last Friday. As chairperson of Women and Family and Social Services affairs in the Provincial Board, she has been active in the promotion of tree-planting, good health and environment now and then. TSUNAMI-READY

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) conducted a two-day Capacity- Building Workshop for municipal and barangay council officials here recently in a bid to establish a cost-effective local tsunami warning system. The target of the workshop, co-organized by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), are selected high-risk coastal communities in the country. Angelito G. Lanuza, Phivolcs representative and workshop facilitator, said the capability- building is aimed at further educating and preparing grassroots communities for earthquakes and tsunamis. MAYOR CITES PILAR TOURISM CHIEF

MT. SAMAT, Bataan — Mayor Charlie Pizarro gave credit to his wife and Pilar Tourism Council (PTC) Chairperson Alice Pizarro for developing various tourism attractions in this historic town and helping preserve the beauty of the Mt. Samat Shrine. As he takes care of providing the services needed in this fast-rising center for commerce, the mayor is pleased that tourism attractions such as the longest zip line in Luzon has been responsibly managed by the PTC Chairperson. This, the mayor said, allows him to focus on the construction of a government center, concreting of roads, and keeping the peace. (Mar T. Supnad)
