'Yutu' to bring heavy rains next week

By Alexandria San Juan Typhoon “Yutu” is expected to dump heavy rains starting next week, threatening parts of Northern and Central Luzon when it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday.

(satellite image from PAGASA / MANILA BULLETIN) In the latest weather update of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued Friday, Yutu was located at 2,120 kilometers east of Central Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 180 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 220 kilometers per hour. PAGASA said that should Yutu maintain its speed, the typhoon is expected to enter PAR on Sunday, October 28, and will be named 'Rosita'. Upon hitting the landmass, Yutu is expected to traverse and dump rains over northern and Central Luzon and parts of Southern Luzon starting Monday. PAGASA weather specialist Chris Perez said that while Yutu is still over the Pacific Ocean, it has no direct effect in the country. Prior to the anticipated entry of Yutu, Northern Luzon particularly the regions of Ilocos, Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region, will experience a generally fair weather with isolated thunderstorms and rainshowers due to northeasterly surface windflow, the country's dominant weather system as of now. PAGSA said the start of the northeast monsoon or 'hanging amihan' season will be announced next week. Meanwhile, in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, hot and slightly humid weather will be felt with isolated thunderstorms during nighttime. A generally fair weather will also prevail over Mindanao with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.
