SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) - The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) recently distributed deep sea fishing gears to 11 small-scale fishermen here through the San Jose municipal government in at the San Jose town hall. Recipients were selected small-scale fishermen living near the municipal marine protected area endorsed by the BFAR Resource Management Council (BFARMC). Said marine protected area covers 67.22 hectares of coral reef in Brgys. Funda-Dalipe, Madrangca, Barangay 3 and Barangay 4. Of this, 6.57 hectares is the core or the no-take zone located in Funda-Dalipe.

D.T.I.-ILOILO ADVISORY 

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here is urging motorcycle riders to apply for their Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) and Philippine Standard Mark (PSM) stickers now despite the extension for the deadline. The ICC and PSM stickers ensure that helmets meet the required standard stipulated in the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009. Land Transportation Office  enforcers were supposed to start inspecting helmets of drivers and back riders first week of August, but this has been pushed back to Dec. 31, 2012 due to failure of many motorists in securing said requirements. Of some identified 40,000 motorcycle riders here, DTI-Iloilo has processed only 8,000 applications.

ROOKIE COPS

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PNA) — Some 40 rookie police officers undergoing a six-month field training program (FTP) were assigned to the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) last Thursday, Aug. 2, thus adding assets to the city police force, according to CCPO director Melvin Ramon Buenafe who said they will be deployed to identified crime-prone areas in the city. The rookie cops’s six months of training in Sibonga town, included gun safety practice under CCPO gun safety and range officer SPO1 Christoper Panes.

ARCHIVES TRAINING

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — Nine Negros Oriental State University administrative staff participated in a national seminar-workshop conducted recently by the National Archive of the Philippines (NAP). They joined some 1,000 archivists from government offices nationwide in the three-day Basic Records and Archives Management workshop at Hotel Veniz, Baguio City from July 24 to 26. The workshop gave participants knowledge and skills needed to implement required policies on records creation and maintenance, and records use, control and disposition.

BASEY WORKSHOP

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — The local government of Basey in Samar recently conducted its 2012 Local Governance Performance Management System (LGPMS) Exit Conference and 2013 Municipal Plans Formulation at Sabin Resort in Ormoc City, Leyte. Basey mayor Igmedio E. Ponferrada said the LGPMS is an annual program of the Bureau of Local Government Supervision (BLGS) of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) enabling LGUs to assess their accomplishments for a one-year period of based on BLGS-DILG norms covering performance areas on governance, administration, social services, economic development, and environmental management. Basey barangay officials , Sangguniang Bayan members, and town officials joined said workshop.
