New emergency quarantine facilities for coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) patients at Tondo High School was turned over to the Manila City government Thursday morning.
The said facilities, which have a 44-bed capacity, were built by the Manila Department of Engineering and Public Works and the Armed Forces of the Philippines and were designed by WTA Architecture+ Design Studio. The project was sponsored by Samaritan's Purse.
Earlier, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso said they were constructing more isolation facilities that could cater to up to 500 COVID-19 patients in preparation for the possible surge in cases during the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
As of Wednesday afternoon, the country's capital has 1,118 confirmed COVID-19 patients with 172 recoveries and 91 deaths.
So far, the city government has finished building the Delpan Quarantine Facility and the quarantine facility at Araullo High School. In his city address Wednesday night, Domagoso said these facilities have a 160-bed capacity combined.
Inflatable isolation tents have been installed at the San Andres Complex, the Manila mayor earlier said.
More isolation facilities will be constructed at Tondo Sports Complex, T. Paez High School, Patricia Covered Court, Del Pilar High School, P. Gomez High School, Arellano High School, Dapitan Sports Complex, and Bacood Elementary School, he added.
