KIDS’ NUTRITION

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The provincial government vowed support for the implementation of the World Health Organization-Child Growth Standard (WHO-CGS) by passing an ordinance enjoining local government units and national government agencies to make efforts to improve children’s nutrition. Provincial Resolution No. 1367-2012, authored by Board Member Jeremy Agerico B. Rosario, chairman of the Committee on Health, was passed all legislative members led by Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. recently. It enjoins concerned agencies to support the adoption of the WHO-CGS. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)

COMPUTER LITERACY

LIPA CITY, Batangas — A total of 183 residents from the municipalities of Balayan and Lemery were recipients of the basic computer literacy sessions under the Kabataan Information Technology Opportunities (K-ITO) project of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Batangas. Former overseas Filipino workers, out-of-school youths, barangay health workers, tricycle drivers, teachers without computer knowledge and even senior citizens underwent the computer literacy with 15 K-ITO project mentors from Batangas State University (BSU) conducting the training. COP TOASTMASTERS

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — To further enhance the skills and confidence of police personnel, particularly in public speaking, Chief Supt. Edgardo T. Ladao organized a Toastmasters Club for the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3). The speech club was opened to chiefs of the different offices under the PRO3. Ladao said the organization of the PRO3 Toastmasters Club is in line with the directive of Director General Nicanor Bartolome, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, to reactivate the PNP Toastmasters Club which was organized in 1995 but hibernated five years later. D.O.S.T. SCHOLARSHIPS

BAGUIO CITY — The Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) is now accepting applications for the 2012 Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) programs. DOST-Cordillera Regional Director Julius Caesar Sicat, the JLLS program has two scholarship component, Republic Act 7687 ( S&T scholarship Act of 1994) for poor, talented and deserving students and the Merit scholarship program. Both are being offered to regular third year students enrolled in any of the S&T priority courses listed under the program. WOMEN’S ASSISTANCE

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — Forty-nine women have benefited from the Ilocos Norte’s provincial government loan program for businesses. The loan program, also known as livelihood program for women in business, is designed for business women in the province to provide for an additional income for women who have existing businesses. Governor Imee Marcos handed out the P10,000 loan each to the business owners. Borrower’s businesses include hog-raising, craft-making, food service, electronic phone prepaid load and buy and sell. Nelinda Erice of the Gender and Development (GAD) Office in Ilocos Norte, the P10,000 loan is an additional capital to boost their existing businesses. It is a requirement she said, that the beneficiaries should have an existing business to qualify for the program. (PIA)
