CBCP exec doesn't see change in House leadership as drawback in Palace's legislative agenda

An official of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) believes the House of Representatives will continue to push for the legislative agenda of President Duterte even under new Speaker Lord Allan Velasco.

CBCP - Public Affairs Committee Executive Secretary Fr. Jerome Secillano said this is because like former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, Velasco is also an "ally" of the President.

"As I see it, the change in leadership wouldn’t have much impact in the legislative agenda being pushed by Malacanang," he told church-run Radio Veritas, Tuesday.

"Both Velasco and Cayetano are allies of the President anyway. Their loyalty is to the President. On that note, I believe nothing will change much," Secillano added. 

He urged the public to closely monitor the performances of the lawmakers especially in view of the upcoming polls.

"Are they committed to serve you? Do they support legislations that will benefit you? Are they spending the funds judiciously and conscientiously to benefit you? These are just some of the considerations that the public should bear in mind," said Secillano. 

Marinduque Rep. Velasco formally assumed his post as speaker Tuesday.
