NCRPO commends 'Good Samaritan' cop

Perez had asked Fornis to be her guardian and accompany her when she enrolled (Grade 7) at the General Pio del Pilar National High School last May 24. Perez had earlier been rejected by school authorities after she failed to present documents that needed the signature of her parents. Perez then proceeded to the Makati City Police to ask for help from the cops who arrested her parents and Fornis didn't hesitate to act as her guardian. The Good Samaritan cop accompanied Perez to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to get her birth certificate and rushed back to the school to complete the enrollment. "I was touched by the gesture of Police Corporal Fornis. Being the father of the NCRPO, sabi ko dapat ito ang mga nare-recognize (these kind of officers should be recognized)," Eleazar said. "Maaaring hindi na nakikita ng publiko itong mga simpleng kabutihan ng mga pulis dahil minsan hindi newsworthy, pero kung makita naman natin ang ating mga pulis, may mga pamilya rin sila kaya nakakarelate sila sa sitwasyon ni Angela (The public might not see these simple acts of kindness by our cops since perhaps it's not newsworthy. But these cops have also families and they can relate with Angela’s situation)," he added. On Tuesday, Eleazar visited Perez in school where she is currently enrolled to give her some school supplies. Eleazar also offered Perez the services of the NCRPO Regional Health Service for free after learning that she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. "I am extremely happy that the youth now have a different perspective of the police here in Manila," Eleazar said. "What makes me happier is the snappy and unconditional response of Corporal Fornis to a cry for help. This is a touching story of life at its best. Police Corporal Fornis us proud," Eleazar concluded.
