The Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City released 36 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) last March.
In a statement, CIW said that those freed had either served their prison terms, acquitted of their charges, or granted parole and probation.
“Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, CTSSupt. Hylene C. Pancho of the CIW is endeavoring to have more releases for the Bureau of Corrections' Decongestion Program initiated by Director General Gerald Q. Bantag,” it said.
“As a result of the institution's reformation programs, these freed women are now well-equipped to return to society since they have gained knowledge and skills while in incarceration,” it added.
It noted that all PDLs released since the start of the pandemic in 2020 had undergone rapid antigen tests and all turned out negative of Covid virus.
BuCor records showed that a total of 4,610 PDLs was released in 2021 from its seven prison facilities nationwide.
