U.N. FACILITY

CEBU CITY — The Cebu City Government only has until next month to implement a P4-billion waste-to-energy gasification facility project registered with the United Nations Frame (UNFCCC) or risk losing it to another LGU. The Cebu City Government and the company that will undertake the project must submit to the UN and to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) the progress and compliance report of the project next month. But until press time, the project has not been implemented yet, said Greenergy Solutions Inc. (GSI) President and Chief Operations officer Dr. Bernardo Tadeo in his letter address to the Cebu City Council. (Mars W. Mosqueda Jr.)

LEYTE PROJECT

TACLOBAN CITY — The provincial government of Leyte recently revealed to the various local government units under it the results of the Leyte Provincial Competitiveness Index project, which is set to be the basis in extending financial and capability building support. The Leyte Provincial Competitiveness Index Project was developed through the support of the German Technical Cooperation (GIZ) in order to measure the competitiveness of the 41 LGUs of the province. The project was done through the support of the Visayas State University- Institute of Development and Research Studies and the Leyte Chamber of Commerce and Industry. (Jack C. Gadaingan)

D.I.L.G. AWARDS

ROXAS CITY, Capiz  (PIA) — Four more towns in Capiz received their respective P1 million Performance Challenge Fund from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). Capiz DILG Provincial Director Helen Mestidio turned over to the towns of Dumarao, Mambusao, Jamindan and Panay their P1-million checks for winning the Seal of Good Housekeeping award of the agency, Provincial Operations Services Office head Llanie Destacamento said. The towns, belonging to first- to third-class municipalities, are qualifiers for the Round 2 of Seal of Good Housekeeping, Destacamento said, adding that the towns were assessed in 2011.

POLICE OLYMPICS

CEBU CITY (PNA) — Ten police officers and two police stations under the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) were given awards for their achievements in the police’s local version of the Olympics. Some 1,600 men and women in uniform competed in eight categories that tested their operational skills. SPO1 Reynaldo Solante and PO1 Danny Camero ranked number one with the most number of arrests, starting early August. SPO3 Reynaldo Rosacena looked the part of an ideal policeman as he was handed the best in “Tamang Bihis.” SPO4 Daniel Tarucan, PO3 Nonito Baroman and PO2 Jennyfil May Canal were recognized for writing the best affidavits.

D.T.I. REMINDER

ILOILO CITY(PNA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here is reminding the public to be cautious when buying products, especially taking cognizance of those that are covered by the mandatory standard. DTI provincial director Wilhelm Malones made this reminder as the holiday season nears. He said that more than 80 products are already covered by the standard, including appliances for household use and electrical appliances. “Always be vigilant in watching out for markings,” he said referring to the PS (Product Standard) mark for products that are manufactured in the Philippines and ICC (Import Commodity Clearance) for imported.
