LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The province is now taking pride in producing two of the finest officers serving in the Philippine National Police (PNP) – Superintendent Belli Bagaas Tamayo and Police Officer 3 Eduardo de Guzman Santiago, who both won in the 2012 Search for the Country’s Outstanding Policemen in Service or COPS. Metrobank Foundation, Inc. President Aniceto M. Sobrepena congratulated Gov. Amado T. Espino Jr. and the people of Pangasinan for having two of the province’s sons in the elite roster of outstanding police officers. Tamayo, a native of Calasiao, and Santiago who hails from Bayambang will be feted on September 5 and given a trophy and cash prize of P300,000, said Sobrepena. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)

500 TREES FOR MEGA DIKE

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — In line with the National Greening Program (NGP), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Region 3 conducted last Thursday a tree-planting activity at the Mega Dike site, here. Employees participated in planting at least 500 African Tulip and Fringon seedlings, said DOLE Region 3 Director Raymundo Agravante. The activity was held in support of President Aquino’s Executive Order No. 6 (NGP) which aims to plant 1.5 billion trees covering about 1.5 million hectares for a period of six years (2011-2016) in lands of public domain. KIDS’ RIGHTS

MARIVELES, Bataan — A campaign has been launched in schools and establishments catering to the youth to promote children’s rights and help this municipality win this year’s Most Child-Friendly Municipality Award. Mayor Jesse Concepcion said it is now a more conscious joint effort by the local government and the private sector to live up to its reputation of being a child-friendly municipality after being given the award last year for Central Luzon in the 1st to 3rd Class municipality category. Councilor Marimel Lopez, who chairs the Committee on Minorities, Disabled and Social Welfare, said a massive information campaign is ongoing to promote the ordinance securing the rights of children. LUCENA C.C.T.V. PROJECT ALL SET

LUCENA CITY, Quezon — The city government is all set for its crime deterrent project – the installation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in strategic places such as commercial centers here with Mayor Barbara Ruby Talaga allocating P12 million for the project. The procurement of the CCTV cameras has been set and its installation and operation is expected this month, said Talaga. “The purpose of which is to strengthen campaign in crime prevention measures as imitated by her administration,” she said. BOTTLED FUEL

DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan — Due to the economic, health and fire hazards involved in retailing fuels in bottles, the Department of Energy (DOE) has prohibited those retailers who sell fuel oils and other oil products in bottles in barangays. Zenaida Y. Monsada, director for DOE-Oil Industry Management Bureau, said the DOE has issued a circular to prohibit retailing of fuel oils in bottles due economic, health, and fire hazards reasons.
