The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) referral center of the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) is set to open on Monday, March 30.

"We will be opening up on Monday.... Iyan po ay 130 beds," said UP-PGH spokesperson Dr. Jonas del Rosario in a radio interview on Thursday.
Aside from the UP-PGH, the Department of Health (DOH) designated the Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center in Caloocan City and the Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City as other referral hospitals exclusive for COVID-19 patients.
Del Rosario said that there is a possibility to expand the number of beds for COVID-19 patients.
Del Rosario also suggested tapping other regional hospitals as COVID-19 referral centers.
“We should maybe start looking for other hospitals outside Metro Manila or Luzon that could also serve as referral centers. Because eventually PGH or just two hospitals won't be able to handle it,” said Del Rosario.
Possible community quarantine facilities
In a related development, the DOH is eyeing to turn the Quezon Institute and the Philippine Red Cross into "community quarantine facilities" for individuals being monitored or investigated for the dreaded disease as well as for COVID patients who are already asymptomatic.
“The community quarantine facilities are areas where they can be monitored without being in close contact with severe cases.,” said Health undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.
