Tagbilaran City – The department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Central Visayas assured Bohol Gov. Edgar Chatto over the weekend of the early completion of the new capitol building and the paving work of the national road in neighboring Cortes town.
Chatto met with DPWH regional director Ador Canlas at the People’s Mansion in the city as early as Tuesday with Gary Tiu, contractor for the new Bohol Provincial Capitol to discuss the project’s completion.
The contract date ends in July, but Canlas and Tiu promised to finish the project before then.
Chatto, along with Tiu and the Provincial Engineering Team headed by Engr. Ben Redulla, also inspected ongoing works at the provincial capitol site the following day. The project is almost in its final phase with the contractor putting in the interior and wiring.
At the same meeting, Canlas addressed concerns regarding the road project in Cortes which had come under fire particularly in the social media.
The governor had relayed to Canlas complaints about the road being closed down often because of mud and water accumulation.
Canlas admitted the road is DPWH responsibility, but explained that the project has not been abandoned.
He said the road complements a 2018 project which entails the raising the Bacong bridge and its approaches.
The project initially did not involve the bridge but engineers found that it had sagged. Work on this problem was delayed by bad weather, Canlas said.
