The Department of Health (DOH) wants to buy 1,500 ventilators for hospitals catering to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in the country.
Health Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire (PNA)
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire told DZMM on Wednesday that the DOH is looking for a supplier which can accommodate their request for ventilators.
“Gusto natin makabili nang marami, we are undergoing the process. Kapag ganito po kasi, ‘yung volume ang nagiging bottleneck natin,” Vergeire said.
(We want to purchase a lot , we are undergoing the process. But in cases like this, the volume becomes a bottleneck.)
Currently, Vergeire said there are 1,236 ventilators all over the country, 153 of which are in the National Capital Region.
“We are not saying it’s enough, kaya po inayos natin ang ating pag pro-procure. (That’s why we’re fixing our procurement),” the health undersecretary said.
There are no locally produced ventilators, according to Vergeire.
Meanwhile, Vergeire said the DOH expects the arrival of 200,000 personal protective equipment (PPEs) between April 1 to 6, and 700,000 more between April 6 to 24.
