At least 55 Filipinos have tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Malaysia and majority of them are still under hospital care, Philippine Ambassador to Kuala Lumpur Charles Jose said on Friday.
Jose disclosed this during a phone patch interview at the Laging Handa program of the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-IED) aired over government station PTV-4.
Of the 55, the Philippine envoy said 46 are currently confined in different government hospitals in Malaysia while the nine others have recovered or have been discharged.
As for those who are still in hospitals, Jose assured that the embassy is monitoring their status and safety on a daily basis.
According to Jose, all but one of the Filipinos afflicted with COVID-19 attended the mass religious meeting called Tabligh held recently in Selangor, about 29 kilometers west of the capital city.
“Once they recover and are done with their treatment, we will help them for their repatriation back to the Philippines,” he said.
He added that the Malaysian government is arranging a special Malaysian Airlines flight on Sunday, April 5, 2020, to fetch their citizens who are stranded in the Philippines following the implementation of the Luzon-wide expanded community quarantine (ECQ) and the suspension of all inbound and outbound domestic and international flights.
He said they are coordinating with the Malaysian Embassy in Manila to also allow stranded Filipinos in Kuala Lumpur to board the plane on its way to Manila.
“So far, there are 24 Filipinos who have already signed up for the special flight of Malaysian Airlines on Sunday,” he said.
