Kennon Road has been temporary closed until further notice due to Typhoon “Ambo,” the Department of Public Works and Highways — Cordillera Administrative Region (DPWH-CAR) announced on May 14.
“Due to the landfall and ill effects of Tropical Storm ‘Ambo,’ KENNON ROAD is TOTALLY CLOSED TO TRAFFIC to all types of vehicles as of 5 p.m. today, Thursday, May 14, 2020 until further notice,” the department said in an advisory.
DPWH-CAR said this is in response to the directive of Cordillera Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council Chairperson Albert A. Mongol.
Residents are allowed access but they are strictly advised to take precautionary measures when traversing the said area.
Meanwhile, non-residents going to and from Baguio City are advised to take Marcos Highway or Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual-Rizal-Anduyan Road and Baguio-Bauang Road.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Ambo has made six landfalls so far since May 14 upon entering the country’s landmass—the most recent was in San Andres, Quezon at 7:45 a.m. on May 15.
Prior to this, Ambo made landfalls in San Policarpo, Eastern Samar; Dalupiri Island, Northern Samar; and Capul Island, Northern Samar on Thursday; and in the islands of Ticao and Burias in Masbate early Friday.
