By Ellalyn De Vera-Ruiz A new low pressure area (LPA) is expected to enter the country’s area of responsibility today, Sunday, and will likely intensify into a tropical cyclone. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) spotted the LPA east of Mindanao but will still have no direct effect over any part of the country. Today, the northeast monsoon or “amihan” will continue to affect Luzon, causing cloudy skies with scattered rains over Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains over the Ilocos Region. PAGASA said the LPA east of Mindanao has a high chance of intensifying into a tropical depression and will bring moderate to at times heavy rains over Eastern Mindanao and southern part of Eastern Visayas tomorrow. The rest of Visayas and Mindanao will be cloudy with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, while northern and central Luzon, and Bicol Region will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers. The rest of Luzon including Metro Manila will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rains. By Tuesday, February 13, PAGASA said moderate to occasional heavy rains are expected over the Northern Mindanao and southern part of the Visayas. Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of Visayas and Mindanao, while Luzon will be cloudy with scattered rains.
