Hot and humid weather will prevail across the country this weekend while cloudy skies and rain showers are expected in some areas due to the frontal system in the atmosphere, the state weather bureau said.

In the latest weather update issued on Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Administration (PAGASA) said the frontal system is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over extreme Northern Luzon particularly in Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte.
The bureau described frontal system as the boundary which separates the cold air and the warm air where major weather changes occur.
While Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms. PAGASA warned on possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms on areas affected by the two weather systems.
Despite possible rains, PAGASA said that a dangerous heat index of 41.9 degrees Celsius (°C) is forecasted to be felt in Aparri on Friday, the highest heat index expected by the bureau for the day followed by 41.4 °C in Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija.
According to PAGASA, the heat index is a "human discomfort index" that gives the apparent temperature or what humans perceive or feel as the temperature affects their body.
PAGASA considered heat indices of 41°C to 54°C as "dangerous" which means heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely, and a heat stroke is probable with continued activity.
On Thursday, May 21, PAGASA has recorded several dangerous levels of heat index in the country, the highest was observed in Legazpi City, Albay with a scorching 50 °C, followed by the 47 °C in Sangley Point, Cavite.
In Metro Manila, other cities also experienced dangerous levels of heat index with 45 °C in Port Area, Manila, and 43 °C both in Science Garden in Quezon City and at the NAIA Station in Pasay City.
The state weather agency advised the public to stay indoors as much as possible, wear lightweight and light-colored clothing, and to drink plenty of water regularly.
