OUTREACH PROGRAM

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PNA) - Hundreds of Cebuanos have been benefited by the community outreach program initiated by the Office of the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor last Saturday at the SM City Consolacion in Consolacion, northern Cebu. Public services rendered under the program included free prosecutor’s clearance, legal consultation and issuance of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance. Dubbed “Access to Justice Project,” the program was participated in by bureaus attached to the Department of Justice, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Department of Health and law students from Southwestern University and the University of San Jose-Recoletos in Cebu City.

MILITARY EXAMS 

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) – Over 2,400 service member aspirants are expected to take the Philippine Army aptitude test in October. Aspirants will take the Philippine Army Aptitude Test Battery (PAATB) and other Army pre-entry examination in testing centers in Western and Central Visayas. In Western Visayas two centers are in Capiz at the 3ID headquarters in Camp Gen. Macario Peralta in Jamindan, Capiz and in Capiz State University-Dayao campus, Roxas City with scheduled exams on October 1 and 2, and October 3, respectively; Western Institute of Technology, Iloilo City, with exams on October 4 and 5; West Negros University, Bacolod City on October 6; and Negros State College of Agriculture in Sipalay City on October 7. In Negros Oriental, the exam to be held October 8 will be held at the Negros Oriental State University, Dumaguete City.

RABIES-FREE LIMASAWA

MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte (PIA) - As the world celebrates World Rabies Day on September 28, the island-municipality of Limasawa will be declared a Rabies-Free Island in an awarding ceremony on the same day in Manila. “Limasawa Island will be the first island municipality in Region 8 to be declared rabies-free,” Provincial Rabies Program Coordinator Dr. Cyprian Acedo said. With a 200-dog population, rabies prevention was implemented including the registration and quarantine of dogs entering the island, impounding of street dogs and regular vaccination of dogs.

PRO-8 ACTIVITY

CAMP RUPERTO KANGLEON, Palo, Leyte, Sept 24 (PIA) – The Philippine National Police (PNP)’s Police Regional Office 8 held a blood-letting activity at the PRO 8 Grandstand, Palo, Leyte recently. Some 70 police officers joined in the activity, donating 450 cc of blood each or 31, 500 cc of blood, PSSupt Roel Balintong Acidre, chief of the Regional Police Community Relations Division, said. The activity was made possible through the supervision of the Regional Police Community Relations Division Chief PSSupt Roel Balintong Acidre, with the support of the Regional Health Services led by PSSupt Alvin Opiniano in coordination with the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC) Blood Bank headed by Dr. Ernesto Miralles.

BUCOR BACKED

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) – Teresita Ang See, founding chair of the Movement for Restoration of Peace and Order is supporting Bureau of Corrections (Bucor) chair Manuel Co’s move to review the classification of inmates. Ang See cited the case of high profile inmate Rolito Go, who she thinks should not be entitled to parole but is frequently seen outside of the National Bilibid prison. She said that because of such “special treatment” it seems that those who have committed crimes are not really made to serve their sentence.
