CADIZ AWARDED

CADIZ CITY, Negros Occidental (PIA) — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) awarded Cadiz , a coastal city in northern Negros Occ. 64-kms. from the provincial capital city, Bacolod, the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH) to Cadiz City, after ranking fourth in the 2010 evaluation of the Local Government Performance Management System of local government units in the province. The city also received P3 million cash prize and financial assistance from the Local Government Support Fund for its infrastructure projects.

BACOLOD DRILLS

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental (PIA) — Some 200 Brgy. Banago residents here took part in an including emergency disaster executions, evacuation, and food and relief distribution.In Brgy. Alijis, a disaster emergency response and rescue training was conducted at the John B. Lacson University Foundation by 49 naval reservists. The activity was attended by Lt. Commander Venus Guddquiver, Philippine Navy commander of the Naval Reserve Center in Western Visayas and Lt. Col Francis Yulo, Navy Reserve Battalion commander of the 81st Marine Battalion-WV. Brgys. Banago and Alijis residents were the latest participants in continuous drills conducted by the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) under 117 chief Jose Marie Vargas.

DTI REMINDER

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reminds motorcycle riders with surnames beginning A to F that application for inspection and Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) marking on helmets is until end- September only. DTI 6 Information Officer Ruby Melliza said to organize helmet inspection and sticker markings, DTI added letter coding scheme, following surname of motorcycle owners. Meanwhile, motorcycle riders with surnames G to O will have their helmets inspected and marked with ICC sticker in October and those with P to Z in November.

A.L.S. PASSERS

ENRIQUE VILLANUEVA, Siquijor (PIA) — At least 115 passers of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Alternative Learning System (ALS) - Accreditation & Equivalency (A&E) program in Siquijor received their diploma during the 2012 ALS Day celebration and graduation of A&E test passers at the Social Center here recently. The ALS A&E test is a national government program aimed at providing "Education for All.” Nine of the passers were for the elementary level, 103 for secondary level, and three in livelihood class earning diplomas on Computer-Basic encoding and Dressmaking from all six towns in the province. The program benefits out-of-school youths now enabled to complete elementary or secondary education on their own schedule.

CLASSES SUSPENDED

NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) — Continuous rains here has compelled Mayor Susan V. Parilla to suspend classes in the elementary level in Naval’s 26 barangays. Parilla said she tried to reach all barangay captains and school administrators in her area of responsibility to advise them about the suspension of classes. She said she was leaving it up to the barangay captains to assess the situation in their locality even as she advised them to ensure safety of school children from possible flooding as weather conditions were not stable. Parilla said she is particularly afraid of flooding and landslides that the continuous rains might cause.
