TEEN CENTERS

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — Five additional school-based Multi-Purpose Teen Centers will be built in Igbaras, San Miguel, Cabatuan, Dumangas, and Sara towns,  with each town to get R200,000 from the Iloilo provincial government as facility and equipment construction subsidy. The centers are intended to provide opportunities for the youth to share insights and discuss measures in promoting adolescent reproductive health and address their reproductive and sexual health needs through counseling services. Said project will be supervised by the Provincial Population Office in coordination with the municipal mayor, school principal and Sangguniang Kabataan Municipal Federation president of each beneficiary town.

STATS MONTH

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — Relative to National Statistics Month, the Regional Statistical Coordination Committee under the Regional Development Council - 8 enjoins government entities to conduct activities relevant to the celebration in their field offices, local government units, academic institutions, and the private sector. This year’s theme is “Monitoring Progress on Decent Work through Statistics: Pathway to Inclusive Growth,” and for this year’s celebration, the Department of Labor and Employment will host the opening ceremony and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the closing ceremony.

SILAY’S MANGROVES

SILAY CITY, Negros Occidental (PIA6) — SEAOIL Philippines, Inc. and the Silay City government recently conducted mangrove rehabilitation at Mangrove Eco Park in Brgy. Balaring here. The activity was part of a partnership between the private firm and the Silay City government here to enhance the city's mangrove resources. The partnership sees SEAOIL deploying personnel to take part in tree-planting, environmental awareness, environment advocacy campaign, and adoption of an area for mangrove rehabilitation, among others.

FARMERS’ REPRESENTATION

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo — Maguindanao-based Aksyon Magsasaka-Partido Tinig ng Masa (AKMA-PTM) party-list nominees Margarita Cojuangco and Michael Plana visited Dingle and Zarraga towns in Iloilo to conduct a farmers’ forum focused on organic farming methods. Cojuangco is also in Vice President Jejomar Binay’s United Nationalist Alliance’s senatorial slate for the 2013 elections.  Zarraga-native Plana said the AKMA-PTM will become a vital link to farmers needing capital to boost their production. He disclosed AKMA-PTM’s plan to sponsor a legislative bill proposing the creation of short-term credit facilities for farmers. (Tara Yap)

BILIS AKSYON

CANDAHUG, Palo, Leyte (PIA) — The 4th Eastern Visayas Regional Congress of Bilis Aksyon Partners (EVRC-BAPS) will converge all Eastern Visayas BAPS October 10-11 to update them on recent programs like the promotion of heroism in public service. The activity, to be held at the Palo Government Center, will be themed “Bilis Aksyon Partner: Ikaw ay Isang Lingkod Bayani.” Participants will be able to interact with the new Civil Service Commission Commissioner, Atty. Robert S. Martinez, who will be the guest of honor. Participants will be charged R2,400 each for the two-day live-out activity.
