Operatives of the Philippine National Police-Counter-Intelligence Task Force (PNP-CITF) led the joint teams that arrested the chief of police of Bocaue – Superintendent Jowen de la Cruz – around dawn last Saturday.
Senior Superintendent Romeo M. Caramat Jr., PNP-CITF director, said Supt. De la Cruz was caught in an entrapment that also involved elements of the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3), the PNP’s Highway Patrol Group (HPG), and the Bulcan Police Provincial Office (PPO).
Investigation showed that Supt. De la Cruz had taken personal custody of a black Mitsubishi Montero owned by an arrested drug suspect and demanded from the latter an i-Phone worth P75,000 in exchange for his vehicle, said Caramat.
Supt. Joel Estaris, who led the entrapment operation, said robbery-extortion and car theft charges have been filed against Supt. De la Cruz by a brother of the arrested drug suspect.
