Bulacan pursues more solo parent benefits

By Freddie C. Velez City of Malolos, Bulacan — The Provincial Board has approved a provision of discount privileges and other benefits to deserving solo parents in Bulacan. The announcement was made last Valentine’s Day at the festive gathering dubbed as the Solo Parent General Assembly Day at the Capitol Gymnasium, here. Sponsored by the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) through its Social Welfare and Development Office, the annual celebration was attended by thousands of solo parents and graced by Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado. During the gathering, Provincial Board member Perlita Delos Santos announced the passage of the measure discount privileges and other benefits to solo parents. “It’s a most fitting occasion to celebrate and share love with our model solo parents whose difficult and important role in our society deserves ample recognition and support by continuously pursuing meaningful programs to ensure their welfare,” Alvarado said. The governor added that it is in this spirit that the PGB wholeheartedly and strongly supports the implementation of Republic Act No. 8972, the Solo Parent Welfare Act of 2000 which provides a comprehensive package of welfare services for solo parents and their children.
