‘Last Resort’ Pilots On AXN

MANILA, Philippines — An exciting show entitled “Last Resort,” hailed by critics to be the best new show of the fall, is set to premiere on AXN, Oct. 1 at 10 p.m., within the same week of the US telecast. “Last Resort” will henceforth be aired every Monday at 10 p.m.

Helmed by Shaw Ryan (“The Shield”) with Karl Gajdusek (“Trepass”) as show runners, and Martin Campbell (“Casino Royale”) as director, there is little doubt to be had when told that the series will be “unlike anything else on TV, unlike anything you have seen on TV before.”

Undeniably, “Last Resort” has the marks of a cinematic production – top-dollar special effects as executive producer Ryan will reveal; and a solid cast of talents from the Emmy-winning Andre Braugher (“Men Of A Certain Age”) , Scott Speedman (“Felicity,” “Underworld”) and Daisy Betts (“Persons Unknown”) to Robert Patrick (“Terminator 2: Judgment Day”).

Although “Last Resort” is filmed in Hawaii, there is nary an idyllic moment in the compelling pilot. From the onset, viewers are thrust headlong into the world of the most powerful nuclear submarine ever built, the U.S.S Colorado. As the captain, Braugher’s Marcus Chaplin cuts a commanding figure, but his authority was unceremoniously revoked when he made the choice to question a dubious order to fire nuclear weapons at Pakistan, received over a communication channel designed to be used only if the US homeland had been wiped out. Speedman’s XO Sam Kendal steps in as second-in-command, and when he stood by his captain’s decision, the patriotic crew of the Colorado find themselves fired upon by their own country. With nowhere to run to, the crew seeks refuge on an island and meanwhile, takes over a NATO outpost and declares war on the US.

Perhaps executive producer Gajdusek sums it up right – “We’re not a political thriller. We are an epic story.”

Is Bea Binene’s  Nightmare Over?

Listening to the executives and lawyers of GMA-7 during a recent press conference, we understood better the travails and woes that young star Bea Binene went through recently. It was alleged that she and radio jock Papa Dan (Dan Christian Villanueva) had an intimate relationship but they both denied it. Although it was admitted that Papa Dan lived as guest in their guest house for seven months.

They explained that since the Binenes became friends, Papa Dan had been to almost all of Bea’s events like mall tours and others, sometimes hosting them. And one night, Bea and her mom Carina found Papa Dan waiting for them in their house, claiming that he didn’t have a place to stay for the night. He asked if he could stay in their guest house, and they agreed.

That one night turned into months, seven months to be exact. When they couldn’t make him leave, Bea’s mom asked the help of friends, including Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, whom Bea met during a taping at GMA. Atty. Topacio said he volunteered to help Bea when he learned that she was planning to establish a foundation to help children. He even offered to give her monetary support for the foundation. “In fact, we went to my hometown in Sto. Tomas, Batangas to launch her foundation,” Atty. Topacio said.

Anyway, when Atty. Topacio learned that Papa Dan was allegedly “stalking” Bea, he offered to give them legal help. “I accompanied them to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) para ipa-blotter siya. Nagpatulong sila sa akin, so I gave them my time and services as their lawyer.”

The Binenes now deny having told Atty. Topacio to file a child abuse case against Papa Dan, since they had patched up their differences. GMA lawyers are now looking into the possibility of filing a case against Atty. Topacio.

Anyway, Bea Binene is a celebrity endorser of BUM which is celebrating its 20th year with its chic black limited edition anniversary shirts for boys and girls. For a minimum single receipt purchase of regular items worth P499.75, buyers can avail of these limited edition shirts for only P20.
