'Honor selfless doctors, frontliners' --- Sotto

(Ali Vicoy / FILE PHOTO / MANILA BULLETIN) In filing Senate Resolution No. 351, Sotto said that "selfless doctors who dedicated their lives to save others" have also been dying in the fight against COVID-19. He cited the following doctors who died in line of duty: Dr. Israel Bactol of the Philippine Heart Center, Dr. Rose Pulido of the San Juan de Dios Hospital, Dr. Gregorio Macasaet of the Manila Doctors Hospital, Dr. Raul Jara of the Philippine Heart Center, Dr. Henry Fernandez of Pangasinan Medical Society, Dr. Marcelo Jaochico of Pampanga Provincial Health Office, Dr. Raquel Seva of Evangelista Specialty Hospital, Dr. Hector Alvarez of Novaliches District Hospital, Dr. Sally Gatchalian of the Philippine Pediatric Society, Dr. Francisco Lukban of the Philippine General Hospital, spouses Dr. Dennis and Dr. Helen Tudtud of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. He also paid tribute to Dr. Cenover Nicandro "Nicko" Bautista, who was among those killed when a medical evacuation aircraft which caught fire and exploded last Sunday night. "The nation is grieving their loss (as well as the death of) other frontliners who chose to serve their countrymen, sacrificing their lives in process," the resolution read. Sotto stressed the importance of undertaking measures that will ensure the safety and well-being not only of medical frontliners, but also those serving in related fields amid the health crisis. He described them as "gallant and selfless soldiers in this trying times." He said their sacrifices in battling the COVID-19 "should not be forgotten and deserves the highest commendation". Congress is currently on a legislative break and is set to resume on May. As of Wednesday, there are a total of 2,311 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, with 96 deaths and 50 recoveries.
