ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — Hundreds of indigent residents here were treated to free medical services provided by the city government as part of its regular social caravan for the city’s poor communities. This came as residents of Sitio Maligaya, Mambugan, in this city lined up to avail themselves of the free medical and dental consultation as well as vitamins and mineral supplements given to their kids. Social workers of the City Social Welfare Office, headed by Nadeia Sarte, supervised the feeding program for the dozens of poor kids who tagged along during the social caravan. (Nel B. Andrade)

BROWNOUTS TODAY

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur — Brownouts will be experienced today in Batac City and some parts of Paoay and San Nicolas municipalities in Ilocos Norte as well as in parts of Nueva Ecija and Aurora, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said. The power outage in the area served by the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. due to the replacement of the transformer at the Batac Substation. On the other hand, Cabanatuan City, San Leonardo, Sta. Rosa, Muñoz, Guimba, Quezon, Caranglan, Aliaga and San Jose in Nueva Ecija will have a power interruption from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Meanwhile, power load shifting will cause a 30-minute power interruption at 7 a.m. in some parts of Aurora province. P.C.S.O. POURS AID INTO PANGASINAN

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) is intensifying its programs and services to the provinces, this time releasing R750,000 to the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital in San Carlos City. While at it, PCSO Chairman Margarita P. Juico also distributed relief goods to 900 indigent residents from Urdaneta and Dagupan City. The PCSO official visited Pangasinan last October 10, coordinating with the local government unit and Pangasinan 4th District Rep. Gina De Venecia’s foundation. Also present was Dagupan Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez and some village chieftains representing 31 beneficiary barangays. (Edd K. Usman)

D.A.R.E. PROGRAM

CAMP GEN. MALVAR, Batangas — The Batangas Police Provincial Office (PPO) started its 17-week Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Program for the grade school students which is aimed at getting rid of substance abuse in the youth sector. Senior Superintendent Rosauro Acio, Batangas PPO director, said training the DARE team involves three Police Commissioned Officers (PCOs) and 47 Non-Commission Police Officers (PNCOs). Acio cited the assistance of the provincial government led by Governor Vilma Santos-Recto. Target of the program are Grades 5 and 6 students in different public and private schools in the province. HERMOSA, Bataan— When Mayor Danilo Malana joined in the group of the Garcias, he was condemned and criticized. But lately, the same political leaders who condemned him, was the same group who has also now joined the Garcias.
