TACLOBAN VISIT

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte — Rotary International (R.I.) District 3860 Governor Perok Rodriguez will visit Rotary Clubs here October 18-19, 2012 to know their programs and projects and get acquainted with the clubs’ officers and members. San Juanico Rotary Club president Dr. Edgardo Gasco said he will present the Club’s accomplishments, programs and plans for implementation this year when Rodriguez visits on Oct. 18. On October 19, Club officers and members as well as from other Rotary Clubs in the city, including past District Governors Graciano Militante and Pablo Quianzon will gather for Governo’s Night socials with the visiting R.I. SAMAR BROADCASTREEING

CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar (PIA) — Samar Broadcastreeing this year drew an unprecedented number of participants. Same 2,600 participants showed up for the tree-planting activity last Saturday at Brgy. San Vicente, 10 kilometers north of Catbalogan City. Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) Marcialito Torres provided some 3,000 mahogany and jackfruit tree seedlings to be planted in a one-hectare lot in San Vicente. Local police also brought planting materials from their own nursery while the Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry Division volunteered two of their trucks carrying Samar State University and St. Mary’ College students to the site.

AKLAN HELMETS

KALIBO, Aklan (PIA6) — The Department of Trade and Industry has already inspected 6,105 helmets here.  Motorcycle helmets inspection, which started July this year, is in line with the implementation of Republic Act 10054 mandating motorcycle riders to wear standard protective helmets to protect them from fatal road accidents. With less than four months to the December 31, 2012 helmet inspection deadline, DTI-Aklan Provincial Director Diosdado P. Cadena Jr. again urged Aklan residents to have their helmets inspected. Based on Land Transportation Office (LTO) data, Aklan has over 17,000 motorcycles equivalent to the same number of helmets to be inspected, plus an additional one helmet each for use of by a backrider.

STUDENT'S VIDEO

CEBU (PIA) — Ten San Remegio National High school students in Cebu have produced a video entitled “Saving Mother Earth” highlighting solid waste management and tree planting as their exchange project under the Global Connection and Exchange (GCE) Program tie-up with the United States. Community eCenter Manager Romarico Cabellon said the students were the first batch of trainees under the GCE program, a joint project of the Philippine Community Center eCenter Network, National Computer Center and the International Research Board. The US Department of State-funded GCE was launched in the Philippines last December, 2011 with 14 pilots Community eCenters chosen nationwide.

DISKWENTO CARAVAN  

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — A Diskwento Caravan will be conducted here October 18 - 20 at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Leyte Provincial Office grounds.  Spearheaded by DTI-Leyte, the three-day caravan is part of the month-long celebration marking Consumer Welfare Month in Leyte, DTI Director Desiderio Belas Jr. said. The caravan will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and the public is invited to visit, shop and avail of basic commodities offered at discounted rates at the DTI office in Fatima Village along the National Highway, this city.
