DPWH reactivates 'Lakbay Alalay' during Holy Week

By Betheena Kae Unite Motorist assistance program or the "Lakbay Alalay" will be reactivated during the Holy Week, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Wednesday. The motorist assistance program aims to provide motorists and commuters as well as local and foreign tourists prompt and reliable assistance while traveling.

(DPWH / MANILA BULLETIN) Field offices nationwide have been directed to reactivate the department’s motorist assistance program starting 12 noon on Holy Wednesday, March 28 until 12 noon on Monday, April 2. Public Works and Highways Chief Mark Villar said motorist assistance teams will be deployed on a round-the-clock shift to provide emergency assistance and ensure major thoroughfares are well-maintained, and free from obstructions and potholes. The motorist assistance team were also directed to coordinate with the Land Transportation Office, Philippine National Police, Local Government Units and other government agencies for any assistance that may be required. Blue-colored Lakbay Alalay tents were also put up where the travelling public can seek help for maintenance equipment. According to the agency, Lakbay Alalay is reactivated "everytime there is a long holiday." The program was first activated in April 2003 in compliance with the directive of then Acting Secretary Florante Soriquez to "install traffic advisory and directional signs along major routes in Northern Philippines"
