Cebu City—The 43 police officers who were reassigned to the Parian Police Station were reminded to resist tainting their reputation after the entire station was sacked following the arrest of a policeman for alleged extortion.
“We are now enjoying better pay. Whatever you’ll get from illegal activities is nothing compared to the sacrifices that you made just to become a policeman. I hope that what happened in the past, which is the reason why we are here, will not happen again,” Senior Insp. Porferio Gabuya Gabuya, the station’s new officer in charge, told his men Wednesday morning.
The station’s 39 officers, including the station head Chief Insp. Ramoncelio Sawan, were relieved following the arrest of PO3 Ritchie Saquilabon in an entrapment operation conducted by a team from the Counter Intelligence Task Force (CITF) last Monday in downtown Cebu City.
Saquilabon allegedly extorted P20,000 from a woman in exchange for the release of her son, who had been arrested on drug charges.
Chief Supt. Robert Quenery, director of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas, said he relieved the Parian police force after learning that four other policemen from the station connived with Saquilabon.
Quenery did not name the four other officers pending further investigation.
“I am still checking the background of the personnel so I would know where to assign them especially in the administrative posts,” said Gabuya.
The new set of officers came from the Regional Public Safety Batallion and Mobile Force Company.
“The challenge now is how to familiarize with our area of responsibility (AOR) since most of the personnel are not from Cebu City. But we will do our best to serve the community,” said Gabuya, who will head the station while waiting for Senior Insp. Paul Albotra to take over.
The station covers Barangays Parian, Tejero and Kamagayan.
Gabuya said the previous personnel at Parian Station will undergo a 15-day re-training for moral development.
