CAMP GEN. LIM, Laguna — The Police Regional Office (PRO) 4-A headed by Chief Supt. James Melad with officials from Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Tollway Corporation (STC) signed an agreement to combat and prevent crime incidents particular hijacking. Under the memorandum of agreement, police will conduct Anti-Hijacking operations and provide sufficient number of Anti-Hijacking Task Group personnel to occupy the detachments provided by STC. The main target of the security operations is the portion of the tollway between Sto. Tomas town and Batangas City. (Ferdinand F. Castro)

BALIUAG, Bulacan — “Change the world one heart at a time.” These were the unforgettable words that were uttered by 13-year-old young hero, Cris “Kesz” Valdez, during his awarding at the recent Kids Rights’ International Children’s Peace Prize 2012 in Hague, Netherlands. In time for the National Children’s Month Celebration, the teenage advocate will share the message of hope among the mall goers through the Gifts of Hope Booth at SM City Baliwag. Mall goers may donate toiletries like soaps, shampoos, toothbrushes, toothpastes, face towels as well as slippers and first aid kits to the foundation founded by Kesz. (Freddie C. Velez)

LIVELIHOOD FUND

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union —Region 1’s Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) formally turned over recently a livelihood assistance package amounting to R317,250 to the members of the Aliguas Blacksmith Workers Association (ABWA). The turnover was held during the formal launching of the agency’s Livelihood Program: “Panday” in the town hall in Calasiao, Pangasinan, recently.  DOLE Region I Director Grace Y. Ursua said that the financial assistance serves as the conduit between the labor agency and the ABWA. “The DOLE 1 is happy with this new partnership which is envisioned to preserve and improve an enduring craft and livelihood of the people of Calasiao,” she said. FREE BURIAL

ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — The local government here has recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with a private cemetery that would provide free burial place for indigent residents of this city. Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and Robin Nepomuceno of the Holy Mary Memorial park have agreed to construct some 200 concrete apartment-type niches that will be used for the interment of deceased indigent Angeleños. The signing of the agreement was witnessed by San Fernando Auxiliary Bishop and Holy Rosary Parish Priest Pablo Virgilio David. (Franco G. Regala)

SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan — City Mayor Julier C. Resuello said yesterday that the Seal of Good Housekeeping award received by the city from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has been a true source of inspiration and fulfillment. The city was cited for its projects approved by the City Development Council (CDC) have been efficiently implemented, thereby garnering the DILG citation that gave as incentive to San Carlos City R25 million as Local Government Support Fund. In addition for the year 2012, the DILG extended financial subsidy for disaster management and rescue equipment in the amount of R4 million, said Resuello. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)
