BULAKAN, Bulacan — “We are very proud of course, because President Benigno Simeon Aquino III named a veteran trial lawyer from this town, Renato C. Samonte, Jr., as the new chief of the Bulacan Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.” Thus, said Mayor Patrick F. Meneses here early yesterday morning as he welcomed Samonte’s appointment to the post vacated by veteran lawyer Alfredo “Gerry” Geronimo who retired from the government service last year. Samonte is the eldest son of the late Renato “Rening” Samonte and Lucia dela Cruz of Taliptip, Bulakan, Bulacan and became the president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Gat. Marcelo H. MOBILE VETERINARY CLINIC IN QUEZON
UNISAN, Quezon — A mobile treatment clinic for livestock animals and pets was set up by the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) with an aim to propel Quezon to being the center for livestock industry and protecting diseases in the region. Dr. Gerald Montierro, PVO chief, said this undertaking is part of a province-wide and year-long veterinary medical mission. The mobile consultation and treatment clinic provides vaccines and medicines to immunize dogs against rabies. It also provides free consultation and antibiotics, vitamins, and dewormers for livestock, carabaos, horses, goats and poultry. (Danny Estacio)

PILAR, Bataan — The Highway Patrol Group (HPG) is now preparing a scheme to ensure a smooth flow of traffic come All Saints’ Day. Chief Inspector Edwin Romero, newly designated chief of the HGP in Bataan, said that they will hire additional force multipliers compose of civilian volunteers to augment their limited personnel who will assist motorists going home and travelling this coming four-day vacation. Romero said that apart from their intensified mobile patrol along Roman Highway in coordination with local authorities led by Mayor Ver Roque, strict compliance with registration stickers for helmets of motorcycle riders will be enforced. CEMETERY FOGGING DONE IN DAGUPAN
DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan — City Health Officer Dr. Leonard Carbonnel reported yesterday that his office conducted a fogging operation in several public cemeteries here to drive away possible dengue-carrying mosquitoes. The operation was done in anticipation of the thousands of people who will be visiting their departed love ones during the All Saints Day holidays. Carbonnel, said the mosquitoes and other vermin are threat to the health of the Dagupeños as there continues to be cases of dengue and other disease like leptospirosis. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)

BATANGAS CAPITOL — The National Statistics Office (NSO) of Batangas hosted recently the Provincial Consultative Forum in preparation for the conduct of the 2012 Census of Agriculture and Fisheries (CAF) beginning February next year. The forum which was held last Thursday was attended by representatives of provincial line agencies, local government units, farmers’ and fisher folks’ organizations, academe and data users. It was intended to inform the public about the activity, which is done every ten years, and solicit suggestions and comments with regard to the survey’s content. (Ferdinand F. Castro)
