The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will be deploying at least 700 soldiers in various areas in Metro Manila to augment the police forces in securing public places and other areas in the metropolis during the Lenten break next week.
Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado, commander of the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region, said additional 100 military reservists will also join in securing transport hubs, malls and other areas where people usually converge.

“There will be forces that will be deployed in Quiapo Church, bus terminals, South and North harbors, airports and stations of mass transport systems in Metro Manila,” said Arrojado.
Arrojado said that they have not detected any threat so far for the Holy Week.
“No threats were detected but we remain on alert,” said Arrojado.
The military deployment would complement thousands of policemen who are expected to secure various areas in the metropolis as part of the regular security measure every Lenten break.
Director General Ronald dela Rosa, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said all police forces across the country have already been placed under highest security alert status.
“This means that all our policemen will be on duty while our countrymen are on vacation. We are also encouraging force multipliers like barangay police to help us,” said dela Rosa.
Like the military, dela Rosa said they have not also detected any serious threat so far.
“On the threat of terrorism, so far we can say we are not monitoring any threat from terrorism but then again we are advising the public not to relax. Let us still be vigilant,” said dela Rosa.
And to ensure public safety, dela Rosa said they will also be setting up help assistance desks for commuters, especially for those heading towards their provinces for a long break.
