QC resort, park owners reminded to conserve water

With the scorching summer heat, the number of people trying to refresh themselves in resorts, public swimming pools and leisure parks in Quezon City has started to rise.
This prompted some local residents to ask city officials to coordinate with concerned agencies in relentlessly pursuing errant swimming pool and resort owners found veering away from water conservation practices.

Councilor Victor Ferrer Jr. traced the city’s other water wastage dilemma in leisure areas where there are overflowing swimming pools, faulty showers, pipe leaks and wasteful way of watering plants in the city’s vacation facilities.
He asked city hall personnel to conduct surprise inspections to ensure that resort owners and similar establishments strictly adhere to the water saving schemes of the locality.
Ferrer noted that Quezon City is currently suffering tremendous water crisis adding that water conservation should be a major concern not only by the government but also by the public in general.
“It will be a big help if resort owners will save water. They should strictly employ water conservation measures to their customers. It is for our own good,’’ Ferrer said.
Julius Avenido of the city’s Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) assured that the office will conduct random inspections of the city’s leisure parks and resorts to determine if any violations are committed.
He said that suspension or cancellation of business permits will be an option if resort owners are found guilty of water conservation violations.
Avenido added that he will recommend the putting of signs that cite water saving tips to the millions of customers flocking the city’s leisure parks in the summer months.
He said that this will hopefully encourage the public to realize the importance of saving water to ease the negative impact of the dry spell which had caused considerable public inconvenience in the past.
