Bacolod to host int'l conference on mask arts

By Glazyl Masculino BACOLOD CITY – About 200 delegates from 24 countries are expected to attend the International Mask Arts and Culture Organization (IMACO) international conference in this city in November. (Photo courtesy of Bacolod City PIO Photo / MANILA BULLETIN) The Bacolod Organizing Committee led by Mayor Evelio Leonardia and former Councilor Em Ang met with the South Korea officials and IMACO staff led by secretary-general Kil Sang Yoo last week at the Bacolod City Government Center to discuss preparations for the conference on Nov. 5 to 8. Accompanying Yoo were team manager Gyoo Tae Do, staff members Dawon Ginny Lee, Hyunjin Kim, Jinuk Jason Lee, and Sang Kwang Cho, and chief executive officer of the World Tour Travel Agency. Bacolod was ideal as a host for the conference since it celebrates the MassKara Festival every fourth Sunday of October. Yoo said the conference is the organization’s biggest so far, and there are plans to bringing a K-Pop group for a concert here to drum up support. In 2017, Bacolod received an invitation to host the 7th IMACO international conference this year. During the 6th IMACO international conference in Vientiane, Laos, Leonardia and Ang signed a memorandum of understanding with IMACO President Kweon Young-sae for Bacolod to host the next conference. Kweon is the mayor of Andong City, South Korea, that is a sister city of Bacolod. The conference is supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and Cultural Heritage Administration of the Republic of Korea, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, and Andong City. Events lined up include Mask and Art Road Performance, World Mask Exhibition, Policy Forum, General Assembly and Academic Symposium, special performances, and tours.
