BARANGAYAN ACTIVITIES

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte — The An Waray party-list recently conducted a “barangayan” in the Costa Brava area, San Jose district, here. An Waray Rep. Florencio Noel said the barangayan activities offered free medical and dental consultation, distribution of free medicines, free legal services and feeding program for the kids and a beauty caravan conducted by the “Barangay Ni Nanay” (BN) group which provided free manicure, pedicure, foot spa, reflex and other related services. P2.64-M ALLOWANCES

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PNA) — The Cebu City government has released P2.64 million as third tranche of cash incentives for some 880 barangay officials covering their monthly allowance, July to September. The city gives P5,000 monthly cash incentive to 80 barangay captains; P3,000 to 560 barangay councilors; P3,000 to 80 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairpersons; and P2,000 to 80 barangay treasurers. In said third tranche, the barangay captains will receive P15,000 each representing their total incentive, July to September; P9,000 for barangay councilors; P9,000 for SK chairpersons; P6,000 for barangay secretaries; and P6,000 for barangay treasurers.

MOSQUITO TRAPS

KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) — Elementary and secondary schools in Aklan received their respective shares of Ovi/Larvicidal traps during a recent launch program at the Trade Hall, Capitol Building. The mosquito OL trap is a system developed by the Department of Science and Technology as part of government’s multi-pronged approach in addressing the country’s dengue problem. It is used to control the population of dengue-carrying Aedes mosquitoes. The DOST, Department of Health and Department of Education spearheaded the Ovi traps launch and distribution along with the Aklan provincial government.

BULBS DISTRIBUTED

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — Some 33,000 compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) bulbs were distributed to Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries in Negros Oriental, Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor provinces to replace commonly used incandescent bulbs.  The Department of Energy, along with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, gave out the free CFLs to promote “Energy Conservation and Efficient Lighting” as one of government’s responses to concerns of the greenhouse effects and the need to conserve energy. The bulbs last about 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs and use about 80 percent less energy.

DRUGSTORES RECOGNIZED

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — In Eastern Visayas, 15 drugstores across the region received the Food and Drug Administration’s quality of seal award, in celebration of the Generics Act of 1988’s 29th anniversary. FDA assistant regional director Minerva Molo said the seal of quality award is an assurance that the drugstores are selling quality products.T he Food and Drug Regulatory Officers sets the criteria for the selection which includes the identification of the drugstore and its existence for at least two years and history of continuous compliance to FDA laws.
