CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), along with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), police and local government (LGU), are again spearheading Lakbay Alalay (Travel Assist) during the long All Souls‘ and All Saints‘ Days or Undas break, based on an October 15 directive from DPWH Sec. Rogelio Singson. Starting last Monday, the DPWH, LTO, PNP and LGU have pooled personnel to man four Lakbay Alalay stations from Catbalogan City to San Juanico Bridge in Sta. Rita, Samar towards Tacloban City.

BUSINESS SECURITY

KALIBO, Aklan (PNA) — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it is committed to ensuring the security and safety of investors coming to Kalibo, famed for the original Sto. Niño-based Ati-atihan festival. Kalibo Police chief, Supt. Aden Lagradante said it is the police’s primary duty to ensure that Kalibo will have a healthy business atmosphere. The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Kalibo (PCCI-Kalibo) recently commended Lagradante following the town police’s speedy resolution of a robbery incident at the Crown Tech Computer Center here.

BORACAY C.C.T.VS.

BORACAY, Malay, Aklan (PNA) — The Boracay Foundation Incorporated (BFI) is urging government to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in Boracay so as to ensure the safety of residents and tourists coming here. BFI president Jony Salme said the Malay local government plans to issue a mandate for resort owners to put up CCTV cameras in their respective firms before they are allowed to renew their business permits. The Boracay Police Office recently requested a local legislation for CCTV cameras as robbery incidents continue to rise in this resort island .

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Cebu-based 7th Regional Community Defense Group–Army Reserve Command base is set to boost its link and coordination with the academe here. Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retirees Affairs Major General Marlou Salazar, along with the 701st (Cebu) Community Defense Center, 7th Regional Community Defense Group, Army Reserve in Lahug Cebu City met with officials from colleges and universities here in the city last October 26 at DepEd, Ecotech Center, Lahug to gather update, enhance, and support Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program advocacy.

D.O.H.-D.A. COLLABORATION

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — Department of Health and the Department of Agriculture collaboration in Eastern Visayas on the rabies-free campaign program in the region has gained positive result with this month’s declaration of Biliran as rabies- free province. The two national government offices have jointly lobbied for the Anti-Rabies Act since 2007 with an aim to achieve a zero-rabies country by 2020. Dr. Erlinda Domingo of the health facility enhancement program of DOH said Secretary Enrique Ona has vowed to increase the procurement of dog vaccines and increase funding for the program in recognition of DAs good performance in the implementation of the program.
