PASIG FIRE
Some 10 families were rendered homeless when fire hit a residential area and destroyed some R1 million worth of properties in Pasig City last Monday night. No one was killed or hurt in the fire. Fire Senior Inspector Anthony Arroyo, chief of the investigation section of the Pasig City Fire Station, said that the fire originated at a house at 383 M.H. Del Pilar St., Barangay Palatiw, at 7:35 p.m. Arroyo said that the fire, which reached second alarm, spread to seven other houses made up of light and concrete materials. It was put out at 8:15 p.m. (Francis T. Wakefield)
CLASSROOMS
With the implementation of the K-to-12 program, the Caloocan City government will construct 300 more classrooms, before the end of the year. Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri said “more classrooms would be needed, and I promise that before the end of my term, we shall be constructing 300 more classrooms.’’ Since he became mayor in 2004, the city government has built 375 classroom students is only 1:85. With the addition of new classrooms, the ratio of classrooms to students is now 1:55, he said. (Ed Mahilum)
