T.U.P.-VISAYAS SCORES

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) – Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) –Visayas in Talisay, Negros Occidental topped the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd)’s ninth Statistical Analysis Contest recently. University of San Agustin, Iloilo City came second; Western Visayas College of Science and Technology, Lapaz, Iloilo third; Central Philippine University, in Iloilo City fourth; and Aklan State University in Banga, Aklan, fifth place. Dr. Rex Casiple, CHEd-6 chief education program specialist of and contest chairman said 11 schools and universities in Western Visayas participated in the competition.

NEGROS CO-OPS 

LA CASTELLANA, Negros Occidental (PIA6) – Some 3,000 active cooperative members in Negros Occidental participated in the recent 33rd Provincial Co-op Day themed “Kooperatiba Pagyamanin, Mga Kasapi ay Paramihin” in La Castellana town. The event was sponsored by the Negros Occidental Cooperative Development Council, the La Castellana municipal government and Gawad Pitak 2012 national awardee, La Castellana Personnel Multi-Purpose Cooperative. Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said there are about 512 active cooperatives in the province, the most outstanding of which were given due recognition during the event.

TENNIS TOURNAMENT

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) – The Dumaguete City Sandurot Festival Committee on Sports and Recreation, in cooperation with the Dumaguete Table Tennis Association (Dutta), will hold the third Sandurot Table Tennis Tournament Nov. 10-11 at the Silliman University gymnasium. The tournament will have four categories: Boys and girls residing or studying in Dumaguete aged 14 years old and below; those aged 17 years old and below; men and women who are employees or professionals residing in Dumaguete for the Executive Division; and the Men’s Open for students and ex-varsity players working in Dumaguete.

T.E.S.D.A. BENEFICIARIES

SIQUIJOR (PIA) – Some 100 trainee-beneficiaries from this province completed the training on Shielded Metal Arc Welding NC II (SMAW) conducted by the Cebu Science of Welding Technology, Inc. recently. Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) Information Officer Elsa Apiag said the graduates also underwent mandatory competency to be certified in SMAW NC II. Of the 100 trainee-graduates, 97 were found competent indicating the quality in the training delivery of the program, said Apiag.

CHARTER DAY

ORMOC CITY, Leyte (PIA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)’s Fourth Leyte Engineering District (LED) joined Ormoc City’s 65th Charter Day Celebration recently through a grand parade.The 4th LED delegation based in Ormoc City was headed by District Engineer Lino Francisco C. Gonzalez. Other participants included representatives from other government offices in Ormoc, barangay officials, schools and colleges, civic groups and non-government organizations. Said parade, regularly conducted during Ormoc’s Charter Day Celebration, was made colorful through street dancing which is part of the city’s Tugob Festival wherein products of the locality were featured.
