INMATES RONDALLA
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) — The provincial government here has approved the purchase of music instruments for talented inmates of the provincial jail in order for them to form a rondalla band. Governor Luisa Cuaresma said funds for the purchase of the music instruments has already been approved. She added that the inmates will showcase their talents and provide entertainment during special occasions and events. Cuaresma said the creation of a rondalla band was suggested by the management of the provincial jail after noticing the talents of several inmates on the musical instrument.
CHILDREN’S MONTH
BALER, Aurora (PIA) — A State of the Children Address (SOCA) delivered by Governor Bellaflor Angara-Castillo highlighted the recent celebration of National Children’s Month (NCM) in Aurora province. Angara-Castillo said “it is important to recognize that children have rights: their right to survival, their right to development, their right to protection and their right to participate.” She said she is donating a hectare of land in Baler to the Department of Education to be used for the construction of a Child and Youth Center.
P.W.D.S’ Day
ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — Persons with disability (PWDs) in the province are encouraged to come and celebrate their day with their fellow physically challenged as the provincial government set November 9 this year as the day for the province’s disabled sector. A day of fun and games, inspirational talk and entertainment await the PWDs in the province, said Eljoy Lagan, coordinator of the disabled sector said. Citation certificates will be awarded PWD achievers who have contributed in efforts at the Ynares Center in this city. Rizal Governor Casimiro Ynares III, told Manila Bulletin that te capitol is happy to extend its assistance to the PWDs in order for that day to be memorable for all the disabled in the province. STA. CRUZ, Laguna, Nov. 1 (PIA) — The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) 4A under the Department of Agriculture (DA) launched recently a school-on-air (SOA) radio program targeting Laguna vegetable farmers as primary audience. Some 550 vegetable farmers from Laguna’s 10 towns and two cities are participating in the SOA dubbed as “Sa Organikong Pagsasaka, Panalo Ka!” Magsasaka Syentista” Renato Belen of San Pablo City, Peter Consebido of Nagcarlan, and Ronald Costales of famed Costales Nature Farm are among the resource persons tapped as radio teachers. The program airs 5-6 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays over DZJV AM 1458 KHZ, running until Nov. 29 this year.
L.G.U.s Awarded
TABUK CITY, Kalinga (PIA) — Two local government units in the province were given the Gawad Pamana ng Lahi Award this year in recognition of their sustainable and innovative styles of governance. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) awarded to Balbalan R1 million and to this city R2 million for winning the Pamana ng Lahi for achieving for the third time exemplary performance in local governance. Aside from sustaining what they have achieved previously, the two LGUs continued to introduce innovations in public service delivery. In Balbalan, the LGU was able to implement the overseas Filipino worker loan program that helped many OFW applicants find job abroad.
