Guerrero, it was recalled, was supposed to retire on December 2017 but his term was extended by the President for an additional four months. "I am happy for Gen. Galvez. I know he will make a good CSAFP. I knew him since he was a lieutenant, very professional and competent. Most of his assignment have been in Mindanao specially in western, central and eastern. He knows the area and the people well," Lorenzana said in a text message. Galvez, for his part, thanked President Duterte for the trust and confidence on him and assured that he will do his best to serve the position given to him with the same dedication as the other positions he previously held. Galvez is one of the military leaders who helped liberate Marawi City from the hands of the Maute Group. The five-month war resulted in the killing of Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon and Maute leader Omar Maute. Galvez finished several courses both local and foreign. Most notable of which are the Australia Military Familiarization Course in Australia, Scout Ranger Course, Basic Airborne Course, Military Intel Officer Basic Course, Infantry Officer Basic Course, and General Staff Course. He was conferred with numerous awards such as Military Merit Medals and Leadership Award and Outstanding Achievement Medal.
