The Makati City government has announced that a large-scale flu and pneumonia vaccination drive will be conducted for city residents.

“We want to give our Makatizens added protection against the coronavirus. Giving everyone flu and pneumonia vaccines, especially the most vulnerable sectors, will improve their resistance to SARS-Cov-2 -- the cause of COVID-19 infection,” Mayor Abby Binay said Thursday (July 30).
Binay said that for the first time, residents can sign up online for the free vaccination, in a registration process that is more efficient for Makati healthcare service workers and reduces person-to-person contact.
She explained that city residents with Yellow and Blue Cards can use their smartphones or computers to access the #ProudMakatizen website (proudmakatizen.com), select “Vaccination Registration," and complete the easy-to-follow registration. Residents will be asked to enter their Yellow Card ID or Blue Card ID number for verification.
Binay said Yellow card holders may register their declared dependents for vaccination as well. Verified residents will receive a message confirming their schedule for vaccination.
She said the online registration for vaccines is another first in Makati City.
“We are implementing new strategies to ensure the unhampered delivery of healthcare services to over 500,000 Makatizens. This is part of our drive to innovate and set new benchmarks for the new normal,” Binay said.
The Department of Health has recommended flu and pneumonia vaccines to prevent the complications caused by the COVID-19.
Makati health officials said residents will receive trivalent flu shots that cover three strains of influenza (influenza A-H1N1, influenza A-H3N2, and influenza B).
About 5,130 frontliners and essential workers in the city received flu vaccines while pneumonia shots have been scheduled this August.
Binay also instructed the Makati Health Department to prioritize city doctors, nurses, and health personnel including workers engaged in public safety, rescue, social welfare, sanitation, and other essential services.
She said the immunization program covers all 9,706 city hall employees. Aside from the free vaccine, the city government also provided Vitamin C and B complex tablets to personnel who reported for duty during the enhanced community quarantine.
