GREENING INITIATIVE

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA6) — Some 40,000 trees have been planted by Capiz cops since the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) greening initiative was launched early this year. The figure is based on the Capiz Police Provincial Office’s Tree Planting Monitoring Report in the project “Pulis Makakalikasan: 10 Milyong Puno, Pamana sa Kinabukasan” which aims to reforest 125 hectares of timberlands in the province. The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) provided each of Capiz’s 16 municipal police stations with five hectares of planting area while CPPO, Roxas City Police Station (RCPS) and Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) were given 15 hectares each.

INDIGENTS’ BUDGET

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — The Iloilo Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) has requested the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) to approve the Office’s request for a P95-million supplemental budget for financial aid distribution to indigents here. PSWDO Chief Dr. Neneth Pador said an additional P3-million budget has been asked for the Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program for use until end of December after the PSWDO’s P10-million budget this year plus the P1.5-million fund from the Governor’s Office were disbursed. Pador said the PSWDO caters to an average of 60 indigents daily and, on occasion, the number rises to 100 clients.

NEW FLAVOR

CEBU CITY, Cebu — New Magnum choco-capuccino ice cream flavor was unveiled at the Loft, Cebu I.T. Park during the weekend with Magnum brand manager Brian Chanyungco welcoming visitors led by brand Ambassadors Erwann Heusaff and Raymond Gutierrez to the event. Chanyungco said the new flavor is perfect for coffee-loving Filipinos. An imported ice cream product, Magnum, was officially introduced to the country in February, 2012 and distributed through a collaborative effort between Unilever and RFM, mother company of local dairy giant Selecta. RFM President and CEO Jose A. Concepcion III said demand for Magnum has been way beyond expectations. (Phoebe Jen Indino)

ILLEGAL VENDORS

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — The Dumaguete City government is intently pursuing its campaign against illegal vendors reportedly sprouting around the city. The city’s Task Force SAGARR (Special Action Group Advocating Rapid Reform), formed as a special action group here has received complaints from legal vendors inside the city’s public market complex regarding the growing number of illegal vendors and SAGARR head Joey Abella said the task force will conduct surprise “visits” to arrest such vendors mostly selling their wares along Perdices Street and causing an impediment to foot traffic in the area.

D.O.T. BIDDING

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — The Department of Tourism (DOT)-8, through its Bids and Awards Committee (BAC), is inviting suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and contractors to apply for eligibility and to bid for security services for 2013 at the DOT-8. DOT Regional Director Karina Rosa S. Tiopes said security services should be on 24-hour guard duty daily with an approved budget of P570,000 for said contract for the period January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013. Prospective bidders, should have experience in a similar project within the last two years with an amount of at least 50 percent of the proposed project for bidding, and are with key personnel and equipment available for the project implementation.
