Q.S.H.S. EXAMS
LUCENA, Quezon — The Quezon Science High School (QSHS) yesterday announced the admission test to screen for grade 7 applicants for school year 2013-2014 will be held on February 2, 2013. Quezon Department of Education Schools Superintendent Tolentino Aquino said the examination will be conducted simultaneously in various testing centers in four district of the province to make it accessible to the students. These testing centers are Paaralang Elementarya ng Lucban; Quezon Science High School in Tayabas City; Catanauan Central Elementary School in Catanauan and Gumaca West Central Elementary School in Gumaca. CLOSING PROGRAM
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources will hold today the Closing Program for 95 successful participants of the BFAR School-on-the-Air project at the Hotel Consuelo. BFAR Regional Director Nestor Domenden said about 46 fisher folk from Pangasinan and 49 students from the Pangasinan State University (PSU)-Binmaley campus have successfully completed the school-on-the-air program. Guest of honor at the program will be Agham Party-list Rep. Angelo Palmones. (Liezle Basa Inigo)
EARTHQUAKE DRILL
CITY OF BALANGA, Bataan — The State-run Bataan National High School (BNHS) conducted the other day an earthquake drill to its more than 4,000 students in secondary school even as it sought the need for more fire extinguishers and medical kits. Assisted by the government agencies, including the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Philippine National Police, the training drill taught students what to do in case a magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit the province’s biggest secondary school. City Public Safety Office (CPSO) supervisor Gerry Banzon noted that he found empty fire extinguisher boxes while the computer laboratory did not have its own fire extinguisher. BREASTFEED ROOM
ATIMONAN, Quezon — Nursing mothers will soon have an exclusive room for breastfeeding at the municipal hall here. National Nutrition Council-4A Regional Coordinator Carina Santiago has recommended to the local government here to put up a breastfeeding room within the municipal building with a refrigerator and other needs of nursing mothers. The NNC-4A team also recommended the formation of a nutrition office with corresponding annual budget and a full-time nutrition coordinator to focus on all nutrition-related activities of the local government. LAGUNA GOV UPS THE ANTE
BIÑAN, Laguna — The reward money for anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of Benigno Nayle, the lone suspect in the rob-slay of Maria Victoria Reyes, a 19-year-old student at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños, has been raised to P500,000, a police officer said yesterday. Supt. Leonard Luna, Binan City police chief, said Laguna Governor Jeorge “E.R” Ejercito offered a P300,000 reward for the suspect’s arrest. Binan Mayor Marlyn Alonte-Naguiat earlier announced a P200,000 reward for the early resolution of the case. (Ferdinand F. Castro)
