Thousands of patients recover after being infected with nCoV

By Merlina Hernando-Malipot As fear continues to grip millions of people worldwide due to the new strain of coronavirus (2019-nCoV), health authorities reported that more and more people recover after being infected. Based on tracking done by Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) on the virus’ spread, there are 3,446 patients who have recovered from the virus as of Feb. 10. Of this number, 1,797 recovered in Hubei, 218 in Zhejiang, 201 in Hunan, 187 in Henan, 166 in Guangdong, 102 in Jiangxi, 88 in Anhui, 80 in Jiangsu, 79 in Sichuan, 64 in Shandong, 61 in Chongqing, 48 in Shanghai, 44 in Beijing, 36 in Fujian, 35 in Hebei, 30 in Heilongjiang, 27 in Shaanxi, 25 in Shanxi, 19 in Hainan and Yunnan, 18 in Guangxi, 17 in Gansu, 13 in Ningxia, 12 in Jilin and Liaoning, seven in Guizhou, five in Inner Mongolia, four in Tianjin, and three in Qinghai, all in Mainland China. Other patients who recovered from nCoV include 10 in Thailand, four in Japan, three in South Korea, two each in New South Wales Australia, Singapore, and Chicago-U.S., and one each in Macau, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Seattle-U.S., and Vietnam. Based on the daily briefing on nCoV cases in China, its National Health Commission (NHC) said that as of Feb. 9, 3,281 patients “had been cured and discharged from hospital.” Fatalities, infected continue to increase Meanwhile, the number of fatalities and people infected with nCoV continues to increase, with over 900 deaths and more than 40,000 confirmed cases worldwide. As of Feb. 10, nCoV data on the World Health Organization (WHO) Emergency Dashboard showed that there are 40,484 confirmed cases with 910 deaths in 25 countries. As monitored by WHO, countries with confirmed cases of the 2019-nCoV include: China: 40,235 cases Singapore: 43 cases Thailand: 32 cases Republic of Korea: 27 cases Japan: 26 cases Malaysia: 18 cases Australia: 15 cases Germany: 14 cases Viet Nam: 14 cases United States of America: 12 cases France: 11 cases Canada: 7 cases United Arab Emirates: 7 cases United Kingdom: 4 cases India: 3 cases Italy: 3 cases Philippines: 3 cases Russian Federation: 2 cases Spain: 2 cases Cambodia: 1 case Finland: 1 case Nepal: 1 case Sri Lanka: 1 case Sweden: 1 case Belgium: 1 case Johns Hopkins CSSE tracking also showed that there are 40,561 confirmed cases globally with 910 deaths, 908 of which were recorded in China; one in Hong Kong, and one in the Philippines. In the Philippines, the latest Department of Health (DOH) data showed that the number of persons under investigation (PUIs) for possible 2019-nCoV infection has increased to 314. To date, DOH said 261 PUIs are admitted in hospitals and 48 have been discharged.
